Tuli&Savu is one of the organizers for this happening:
Helsinki Poetics Conference, August 22, 2005
The Helsinki Poetics Conference, to be held August 22, 2005, in the Musiikkisali of the Old Student House in Helsinki, from 10 AM to 4 PM, strives for an overview of the state of the contemporary Finnish poetry. The Conference will work in five consecutive sessions - on "Tradition", "Meter", "Materiality", "Resistance", and "Ways To The Distance". For each theme, there will be a short keynote address, followed by three comments from poets and scholars, and by free discussion. While the working language will be Finnish, the participants are welcomed to speak in English or Swedish as well. A simultaneous interpretation into English will be provided.
The keynote speakers will be Hubert van den Berg, Ph.D. (University of Groningen, the Netherlands), professor Auli Viikari, scholar Frederik Hertzberg, poet Olli Sinivaara, and poets Aki Salmela and Eino Santanen. The list of the commentators will be released at a later time.
The Conference is organized by The Poetry Society Nihil Interit, the literary departments of The Helsinki University, the cultural magazines niin&näin, Nuori Voima, and Tuli&Savu, and The Scholar's Union of Finland (Tutkijaliitto).
The Helsinki Poetics Conference is part of Runokuu (Poetry Month/Moon) 2005 festival.
